The night of nights for the R.D.F.L. turned out to be a spectacular night for the BGT Employment Melton Central FNC.
With a high number of invites for this years Bowen and Ryan Medal, there was much anticipation for what would unfold later in the night. We begin with the senior football, with vice-captain Kane Bullen selected for the R.D.F.L. Team of the Year in the back pocket. It is a wonderful effort as this is the second year Kane has made the side. In a massive boost for the club, both Josh Bamford and Johnathan O'Brien were nominated for the Steve Turner Medal, the 'young gun' medal. The club is very proud to have both players nominated for the award and are excited about the prospect of these players continuing to develop in the next few years. In the reserves football, Paul Snowdon finished third in the Reserves Best and Fairest award. Not bad considering 'Nugget' missed half the season through injury.
But, the real reward for the club was the amount of invitees to the awards night. Although not all of the players recieved something on the night, it shows the hard work that Jo Hili has put into the netball has paid off. The sides are stable, competitive and there is a structure in place for the next few years. Congratulations to Alix Ferri, Lauren Cott, Teresa Densley, Tran Truong and Rebecca Pereira for the invites. Congratulations to Rebecca Pereira for receiving the A Grade Best and Fairest, the Janine Ryan Medal finishing the year on 28 votes. Well done to Tran Truong who finished second in the A Grade Best and Fairest on 26 votes. But it doesn't stop there. Both Rebecca and Tran were selected in the R.D.F.L. netball team of the year as well as star defender Mel Laird. Finally, Rebecca also finished with the most goals in A Grade and received the Jagem Sharpshooter award.
It is a fantastic result for the whole club but our season isn't finished. The reserves have a chance to enter the grand final on Saturday when they take on the Wallan Magpies and all three netball sides try to get into the next round finals over the weekend. The individual awards are fantastic, but lets bring home some flags! GO CENTRALS!
